New Pants
I bought a pair of workout pants from Target this past weekend. It was an upgrade for me at $25. I wore them to a boot camp class on Monday and kind of liked them. Still they felt funny in how they fit me.
As I changed later, I looked at the care tag. (I figured if I spent $25 on them I should probably actually wash them the right way.) The directions read: Wash before wearing….
Um okay. That’s probably why they felt funny.
Lesson Learned
Here’s the thing: over the past month I’ve had this situation happen several times. I’m using something and realize I’m doing it wrong once I read the directions. I mean, I figure I’m doing it right and it seems to be going okay. Once I read the directions, I realize “Oh I could be getting even more benefit from this!”.
It’s got me thinking about how many other things in life I do that I assume I know how to do this or that. But in reality, I don’t. I haven’t read the directions. Unfortunately not everything in life comes with directions, like how to be a great mom to my 4 kids. If you find those, please let me know.
There’s Good News
There are a lot of things that come with directions, instructions, education, whatever word you want to use. But they do us no good if we don’t take the time to read them, to learn them, and most importantly to utilize them. It’s so easy to assume that we know what we are doing in life or at least to do our level best to figure it out on our own.
I’ve been there. I guess sometimes I still am in some areas of my life. However, I refuse to try and do it on my own when it comes to my finances. I’ve done that before and I made a heck of a mess trying to figure it out on my own AND without reading the directions. Once I finally read the directions and learned how to utilize them for my finances, I got out of the big mess and on track. I stopped feeling defeated, hopeless, confused. I also stopped trying to do it on my own. (Read more of my journey in my book.)
Are you in the same boat? Are you trying to do it on your own? Are you willing to learn that there are directions to learn about how to best manage your hard-earned money?
I’m here to help, here to learn with you, here to grow with you.
